This recipe makes 2 pies
-Crumbs:
2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 tsp baking powder
Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Mix well.
-Liquid part:
1 cup molasses
1 cup hot water
1 tsp baking soda
1 well-beaten egg
Mix well.
-Pie shell:
3 cups flour
1 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
Enough water to roll into pastry mixture
Mix well. Make 2 dough balls and roll thin to make 2 pie shells.
Line 2 pie plates with pastry. Pour 1 cup liquid into each shell. Drop 1/2 crumb mixture evenly on top of liquid of each pie.
Bake pies at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake until pies are golden-brown on top.
